JAMES BROWN IS ANNIE are a terrific 6 piece funk/groove band based out of Edinburgh that Alan Gorrie of the Average White Band described as 'The Tartan Special of Funk'. Formed in 2010 the band writes and performs original material influenced by the likes of Steely Dan, Little Feat and (of course) the Average White Band (who famously came from just down the road in Glasgow). They have performed at venues and Festivals all over Scotland, including the ABC in Glasgow (with pioneering soul-funk band, The Family Stone), the Main Stage at the Belladrum Festival, the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, Queen's Hall (supporting Average White Band), The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh and performing in front of 80,000 revellers at the 2011/12 Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party on the Waverley Stage (now that’s what I call a gig!). Outside of Scotland they include performances at The Sage Gateshead and the Pizza Express, Dean Street. Regulars on BBC Radio Scotland, the band made their live television debut on STV's Riverside Show in May 2015. In 2014 they recorded their debut album produced by and featuring AWB’s Molly Duncan which also featured a song written by Alan Gorrie exclusively for the band. The band is: Eddie Miller-piano/vocals, Aki Remally-guitar/vocals, Jonny White-sax, Barry Gordon-guitar, Brett Allan-bass and Davide Rinaldi-drums. Oh, and if you’re wondering about the origins of the name….it comes from an Eddie Murphy sketch on Saturday Night Live (who knew). This is a serious Funk/Groove gig from one of the finest Groove bands around making a rare appearance south of the Border. Booking definitely advised.

“Raw, earthy rhythm and blues” Daily Record;
"Seriously funky" Jazz FM;
“In a class of their own with their inventive, explosive style” Edinburgh Evening News;
"A perfect example of just how much fun funk can be... JBiA ought to have global success waiting for them just around the corner" The Scotsman
