BROTH art (brothart.com) will be hosting its second solo pop-up show of work by the internationally acclaimed artist, Jorunn Mulen at 86a Commercial Street in Shoreditch. Faces by Jorunn Mulen, a Norwegian painter, printmaker and collagist presents a new series of ethereal portraits.

Jorunn Mulen is best known for her eerie portraits of strangers, pastel palette and poetic titles. Her trademark style has a beautiful and beguiling narrative that draws the viewer into another world. This is no doubt intrinsic to her years studying Illustration at Falmoth College of Art.

"The marks on the canvas are traces from a search. Sometimes I only know what I´m looking for, when I find it. In order to find it I might have to get completely lost. Some stories evolve through recognizing traces left by experience that we use to create a persona. The stories may appear in layers. There is a mixture of sincerity and imagination but also a significant truth, which allows them to evoke and intrigue the viewer"

Since gaining her MA in Illustration, Mulen has exhibited extensively with BROTH art – a Hackney based gallery that launched in January 2014 - and has since teamed up with the infamous Rachel Ashwell, the founder of Shabby Chic to create a series of paintings for her interior design shops in New York, L.A., San Francisco and Tokyo. Jorunn has also recently completed a residency at Apricale in Italy and has consequently, been invited back to exhibit at the Castello.
