The English Chamber Orchestra is based in Ealing and is the most recorded chamber orchestra in the world; its discography contains 857 recordings of over 1,500 works by more than 400 composers. The ECO has also performed in more countries than any other orchestra, and played with many of the world’s greatest musicians. Tonight they will be conducted by Julian Gallant, the EMFF Artistic Director, performing their first ever concert in the newly completed Weston Hall at UWL.

The orchestra plays Barber’s wonderfully intense Adagio - made famous by the films Platoon and Gallipoli. This powerful piece is followed by Mozart’s elegant “little A major” Piano Concerto. It’s anything but little, of course, and you’ll enjoy hearing the orchestra in dialogue with Egypt’s foremost classical musician Ramzi Yassa. This will be followed by internationally renowned West London composer David Osbon’s powerful, contemporary work for strings and finally the Slavonic lyricism of Dvorak’s early Serenade.
