The Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Energy Storage Report found the UK energy sector to be unhelpfully driven by ‘cheapness’ and highlighted hydrogen as a potential solution, albeit one not without its challenges. Whilst some remain sceptical about the role hydrogen can play, leading automotive OEMs are investing in the production of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and the IEA 2015 hydrogen and fuel cell roadmap estimating a potential global market in the hundreds of billions by 2050. How realistic is hydrogen as a fuel for transport and energy storage? And where do the key opportunities lie?

This timely event will bring together experts from across the industry to engage with hydrogen – it’s barriers and limits, as well as its potential to transform the energy and transport sectors. From generation and storage to fuel cell vehicles and city-wide emissions reduction strategies, this conference will consider the positions from sceptic to enthusiast to find a realistic way forward in this polarised sector. This considered discussion will be contextualised by an up-to-date look at UK government policy from the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Office of Low Emissions Vehicles.

KEY BENEFITS:
-Insight from the Office of Low Emissions Vehicles and the Department for Energy and Climate Change into UK government policy and strategy for the future of hydrogen
-Hear measured discussion from across the industry and engage equally with the difficulties and benefits of this controversial issue
-Benefit from the opportunity to hear from automotive OEMs and their future strategy with relation to hydrogen fuel cells
-Understand the potential solutions to challenges of generation, storage and transportation
-Build a clear picture of the infrastructure required and how this can be achieved nationally and in line with EU developments
