“There is something magical and incantatory in the way she cherishes language at the level of the name, as if utterance itself might be a way of dwelling in the real and making oneself at home there.” - The New Statesman

“Hadfield's refreshing voice carries all the way from the top of Scotland to blow some of the dust off British verse.” - The Independent

Jen Hadfield was shortlisted as part of the Next Generation Poets 2014, and her work has been celebrated for its strong sense of place and an uneasy relationship with an ever-changing natural ecology. She will be joining The Poetry Society in partnership with The Royal Collection Trust, for a very special reading at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace.

Amidst the tiny worlds-within-worlds of Maria Merian’s pioneering visual study series Butterflies, and the vast landscapes and busy panoramic dramas of the Queen’s Gallery’s own Scottish Artists 1750-1900 collection, Jen will be sharing some of her poetry with us, including a new poem inspired by these two collections.
