With unprecedented access to more than 200 Whitehall officials, military officers and politicians, Tom Bower has uncovered the full story of Blair’s decade in power and beyond. From his landslide victory in May 1997 at the age of forty-three, through his successive terms as Labour’s longest-serving Prime Minister, to his subsequent activities in Asia, the Middle East and America. The result is the political thriller of the year – a dramatic re-evaluation of Tony Blair which disentangles the mystery of an extraordinary politician – and illuminates the ultimate tragedy of power.

Tom Bower is an investigative historian, broadcaster and journalist. A former producer and reporter for BBC Television, he is the author of many books, including biographies of Robert Maxwell, Mohamed Fayed, Gordon Brown, Richard Branson and Conrad Black. Broken Dreams, his investigation into corruption in English football, won the William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award in 2003 and his recent bestsellers include No Angel: The Secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone and Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell. He lives in London.

Mark Lawson is an English journalist, broadcaster and author. He presented the flagship BBC Radio 4 arts programme Front Row between 1998 and 2014. He is also a Guardian columnist, and presents Mark Lawson Talks To... on BBC Four. His most recent book is The Deaths.
