For the very first time, Les Fauristes Chamber Choir and Orchestra present Henry Purcell’s opera Dido & Aeneas, with libretto by Nahum Tate, on 26th and 27th June at the Steiner Theatre. Accompanying Les Fauristes in this daring and moving piece will be soloists from the Paris Opéra and the Clemens Non Papa Consort, who, together with full chamber orchestra, reveal why the popularity of this timeless baroque masterpiece remains as strong as ever, more than 300 years after its composition

Love or Duty?
Combining comedy and tragedy, the opera transports us to the classic era of Greek mythology. Taken from Virgil’s epic work, the Aeneid, the work traces the story of the impossible love between Dido, Queen of Carthage, and Aeneas, a Trojan prince charged with the weighty task of founding a new realm. Will Aeneas listen to his heart or his head?
