The cancer story is changing. There are now 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and survival rates for many cancers have improved radically over the last 20 years. New and improved treatments have played a major role in this change, however, the role of radiotherapy is far less well understood than that of other treatments such as chemotherapy and surgery. And surviving does not always mean living well. As the number of people living with and beyond cancer continues to increase, we will need a greater focus on recovery. This includes recognising and reducing the impact of consequences of cancer and its treatment, such as the impact on bone and heart health and the risk of developing another cancer.
