Historic England presents 60 new photographic portraits of iconic, pioneering, creative and fascinating Londoners representing a city at a moment of fundamental change.

Well-known names will be seen alongside unsung Londoners that make the city what it is. From world renowned scientists Professor Robert Winston and Sir Paul Nurse, to the philosopher AC Grayling; the performance artist Scottee to head of costumes at the Royal Opera House; the oldest family businesses in Smithfield, Billingsgate, Borough and Columbia Road markets to a Yeoman Warder, often known as a Beefeater, at the Tower of London.

Each person is photographed in front of, or inside, a historic London building that means something to them.

The buildings and places that make London are as much a part of the city's DNA as the people who live and work in it. If we lose those historic places, we lose London's identity.
