Translated fiction is driving a boom in UK book sales. This year, a survey commissioned by the Man Booker International Prize found that literary fiction in translation is outselling its English-language counterparts. According to Waterstones fiction buyer, Chris White, “Currently 25 percent of our top 20 fiction titles are translated,” with authors like Elena Ferrante and Haruki Murakami topping the charts. But with the general fiction market stagnating overall, what does the future hold for the publishing of translated fiction in this country? How are publishers filling the gaps made clear by underrepresented voices?

Asymptote Journal invites you to meet innovators leading the proliferation of translated fiction in the UK publishing industry:

Deborah Smith, founder of Tilted Axis Press and co-winner of the 2016 Man Booker International Prize

Laura Barber, Publishing Director for Portobello Books

Adam Freudenheim, Publisher & Managing Director of Pushkin Press

Chaired by Jonathan Ruppin, Literary Director for Orson and Co and founder of the English PEN Translated Literature Book Club, this event will include questions from readers worldwide.
