FITZROVIA LAUNCHES THE INAUGURAL FESTIVAL OF FURNITURE

London, August 17, 2016 – This autumn from October 6 – 9, The Fitzrovia Partnership is bringing the inaugural Festival of Furniture to the West End celebrating the originality, creativity and longevity of design. For the first time, independent creatives and high street powerhouses are coming together to honour the pivotal role furniture plays in our lives. Exclusive district-wide discounts will be accompanied by events, guest appearances and bespoke workshops that will see the Fitzrovia come to life as a design hub.

Fitzrovia, the home of furniture
Long known for its creative heritage, Fitzrovia has attracted homemakers for almost 200 years, since Heal's opened its doors in 1818. The West End has over time been one of the most colourful areas in London and Tottenham Court Road is now a thriving homeware and furniture destination. Over 20 different brands are dotted along the road, with a number of flagship stores, including Habitat and Calligaris, calling the street home.

Furniture's moment in the spotlight
BoConcept, Heal's, Lombok and West Elm are just some of the retailers taking part in the festival and to mark the occasion, they will be hosting one-off parties on October 6th and offering exclusive discounts across the four days.

West Elm's Store Manager, Jane McCann said, "It's a great time to be on Tottenham Court Road celebrating something we're so passionate about alongside the other retailers. When looking at the home there is a lot to think about; aesthetics, logistics, integrity and sustainability. To see all of these elements coming together during the Festival of Furniture is fantastic and we’re thrilled to be part of it."

Working with the experts
Bespoke events will colour the festival with Scandinavian design and upcycling forming the central themes for the week. Bestselling author, Helen Russell, who introduced the world to Danish lifestyle in her book 'The Year of Living Danishly', will be a part of the event along with famed Scandinavian designer, Morten Georgsen and London-based upcyclers, Jay & Co.

The Fitzrovia Partnership BID Manager, Lee Lyons said, "It isn’t everyday that you see independents and high street retailers in collaboration on such a large scale. The Festival of Furniture will see Tottenham Court Road come alive with creativity and design and we're looking forward to bringing the community such a unique event."

Fitzrovia's Festival of Furniture runs from Thursday October 6 – Sunday October 9 and a complete schedule of events will be released in the next few weeks. With talks, workshops and exclusive prices, now is the time to seize the opportunity to discover Tottenham Court Road for all your homeware needs.
