Kenneth Prideaux-Brune will explore the history of the Every Man’s Club, founded in December 1915 by army chaplain Philip ‘Tubby’ Clayton at Talbot House in the Belgian town of Poperinghe. He will explain how soldiers regardless of rank were free to enter, relax and be entertained, escaping the harsh realities of the front line.
Kenneth Prideaux-Brune served under Tubby Clayton for a few weeks in the mid-1950s. Later he worked for Toc H (the charity which grew out of Talbot House), including 10 years as its director. For the past 10 years he has been president of the Friends of Talbot House.
Entry to Daytime Talks is free. However, places must be reserved in advance by contacting the customer services team on 020 7730 0717.
