Under the experienced guidance of our Wikipedian-in-Residence Victor Stepien, participants will learn about how to edit and enhance Wikipedia using examples from within our Library’s collections. This Explore Your Archive week event will be an opportunity to share new content related to our historic Library on the world's fifth most visited website. In particular, we will highlight how specific individuals connected to the Wiener Library have been heroes for tolerance, perseverance and hope. In the morning session, participants will focus on Wiki mark-up editing skills such as creating pages, generating links, categorising articles, and uploading images to Wikimedia Commons. After a lunch break (provided), attendees will use the afternoon to apply their new skills through research, writing, and/or translating articles. This is a unique opportunity to get to know some of the unsung heroes in the Library’s unique collections and share their legacy with the world.

Victor Stepien is a Research Fellow and Wikipedian in Residence at The Wiener Library. A veteran Wikipedia editor, he has created thousands of well-researched, balanced articles read by hundreds of thousands of internet users globally. Since 1 March 2016, he has taught tutorials and workshops based on the library collections, with a focus on multi-lingual, cross-cultural and inter-generational inclusivity. He is writing an e-book about his experience as the 100th Wikipedian in Residence. You may email Victor directly at [email protected].

Due to the nature of this event, minimal computer skills are required, such as basic word processing and web searching. Attendees are also required to bring their own laptops - wireless internet will be provided.
