SILENTnoise

On the 6th of December at the black gates gallery, Hassard street, Hoxton, four artists from varied cultures explore and react to the idea of freedom post feminist society.

Curated by Maria Mohonea, the exhibition houses the work of four artists who have been making work discussing and protesting the manner in which women are treated and portrayed throughout the world. Visually vocalising certain elements and atrocities in ways ranging from subtle frequencies and narrative patterns, to bolder, violent and often disturbing, structure dominating gestures.
Silent Noise plays on the bothering reality that in this age of modernity, people of varied colour and standing are still being abused, oppressed and held down behind the aesthetic and relative melee of human documentation.

Maria Mohonea's work and paintings gravitate around the idea of freedom and the complexity of women in a post feminist society.

Daumants Brunins experiments with both the shape and texture of stretchers and canvas as an interaction of two surfaces in different levels that create a dialog between human genders.

Sao Mangrai uses the traditional oil painting process and Encaustic techniques, building the image with many thin layers to achieve the illusion of depth and rough surface texture in his work.

Peter Harris's paintings revolve around form made up of linear manifestations, in order to develop and articulate an emotional and lyrical language.
