Walk London, a Transport for London (TfL) project, launches Winter Wanders – 44 free guided walks covering some of London’s top walking routes. All walks are designed to connect some of London’s best attractions, parks, woodland, rivers, canals and open spaces.

There are walks to suit all ages and interests.

Family walks, designed especially for families with young children, include Goodnight Mister Tom, inspired by the much-loved book and a Family Favourites walk, which features a location visited by Paddington Bear, a clever trick for staying lucky and a fun-filled quiz for children.

A new 1.5-mile, transport design-themed walk follows part of the Central line above ground. Discover how someone broke into the vaults of the Bank of England, how the 1908 London Olympics gave the marathon its final 385 yards, and where you’ll find the only road in the City of London!

Other walks include The Spooky City, a walk around the City of London with gruesome tales of ghosts, body snatching and public executions. London’s Hidden Treasures is a 2 mile walk along both sides of the river from Waterloo to London Bridge revealing some of the secrets that lie beneath the streets and under the river.

Join The Real West End for a walk that starts at Charing Cross station and takes you down some of the lesser known streets and alleys of Covent Garden and Soho.

Participants need to book their free place on a walk using the Walk London website. Some walks are already booked up but there are still plenty places available.

London is a fantastic city to explore by foot, with many hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. Walking is also proven to reduce stress, and is a simple way to improve your physical health. The free guided walks are perfect for singles, couples, families or groups who want to discover what’s on London’s doorstep – culturally, historically and environmentally.

The Winter Wanders weekend is organised by Walk Unlimited and funded by TfL. All walks start and finish at, or within easy reach of, public transport facilities.
