About Public Art Event: The Newspaper House
Do Something for the Environment: Come and Help Build a Newspaper House!
London has a huge problem dealing with the large quantities of free newspapers. Tubes passengers alone discard approximately nine-and-a-half tonnes of freesheet newspapers a day. Creative City are asking the public to bring their collected newspapers to Gillet Square to help build a 'Newspaper House'.
A ‘House’, created by installation artist Sumer Erek will be built on the Square. The shell will be constructed first and the Newspaper House built from within, with rolled and stacked newspapers the public collect or have found on their way.
Visitors will then be invited to write their own news and comments on the newspapers before adding them to the structure, contributing to building the Newspaper House Art Project.
On Saturday 8th of March, the shell will be removed and the Newspaper House revealed...
We need approximately 120,000 newspapers to complete the House!
