Balkan Hotsteppers (Belgium) Formed back in 2006 by Belgian DJ's Sam Rabam and Typsy Gypsy, the infamous Balkan Hotsteppers released trendsetting mixtapes on the internet. Combining modern beats with classical Balkan, gypsy and klezmer melodies and mashing it up with hip-hop, they soon became a standard in the evergrowing European BalkanBeats scene.
Five years later they have played all over Europe: Belgium, France, Holland, Ireland, UK, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Spain, Portugal. DJ Kobayashi is a regular DJ on the Gypsy scene around London, in productions such as Stranger than Paradise, Balkan Beats London Dimba Presents and is fresh off the back of supporting the legendary Balkan Beat Box in Rome.
Herbert Newbert is a producer/DJ and founder of world music act Native Horizon which mixes flamenco, folk, African and Arabic influences into a melting pot of groovy beats.
Their collaborative work includes remixes from different artist such as; Fanfare Ciocarlia, Besh o Drom, Kocani Orkestar, Boom Pam, Al Jawala and more as well as their own original material.”
Last year Gypsy Hill played at some of the UK’s biggest summer festivals such as: Glastonbury, Guardian Hay-On-Wye, The Big Chill, Farm Fest, Reading/Leeds and Bestival. In a busy summer Gypsy Hill also travelled to Colora Festival in Belgium and Festival Kumpania in France, Germany – with more European dates planned for 2011!!
