Country’s first pupil-run charity fashion store opens in St Paul’s school in West London

Girls at St Paul’s London day school are taking social enterprise to new heights by designing, running and managing their own in-house charity shop, Re-Store.

The concept of the charity shop Re-Store has been inspired by a vintage and green spirit which runs through the mission of the girls to restore the lives of young people in need of help in the community. The shop’s profits are going to the bursary fund and West London Action for Children – a local charity which provides counseling for distressed and disadvantaged children. Donations of previously loved clothes from pupils at this non-uniform school will be given a new lease of life and re-stored for members of the school community to buy and enjoy.

Re-Store will be based in a restored Victorian coal cellar previously used as a school junk room. The shop has been lovingly designed around Victorian tiles/pipes and floor.

Member of the Head Girl Team Mallika Sood, comments : Re-Store is a very exciting project and one which we hope will become an integral part of school life. Girls continually tire of their clothes and so there will always be movement and regeneration of stock. Creating an in house charity fashion store within a school is a unique way of generating income for a worthy cause whilst developing the business skills of the pupils involved.”

Re-Store opens with a launch on 20 September that will celebrate the opportunities and importance of social enterprise; the singer Kate Dimbleby will perform a set and the queen of thrift, Bay Garnett will open the store and of course the doors will open for shopping…
