Return of the Mack

Love London

Fans of Britain's great fashion heritage will be pleased to hear of the relaunch of iconic rainwear brand Mackintosh, who are to open their first ever standalone store in London next week. Situated on Mount Street in the heart of Mayfair (with such fashionable neighbours as Marc Jacobs and Christian Louboutin no less...) the store will house a range of designs from classic heritage styles to its current AW10 and SS11 collections, plus ongoing collaborative projects with other designers.

The stunning store fit has been created by world-renowned retail designers Wonderwall, and features an interior that draws inspiration from classic British craftsmanship whilst keep in tune with the brand's modern facelift. It's a pretty impressive achievement, with the highlight most definitely being the womenswear room featuring a central cylindrical display exhibiting a classic mac design, though the displays of archived Mackintosh styles are also worth a look-in.

Established in 1823 by Charles Mackintosh (who interestingly enough is credited with creating the world's first formal waterproof fabric!) the brand has slipped off the fashion radar in recent years, but is undoubtedly back with a vengeance. I spy with my fashion eye a contender for Burberry's crown for Mac of Choice...

The new Mackintosh store can be found at 104 Mount Street, Mayfair, W1. Frr more information visit www.mackintoshrainwear.com
