My only foray to the final day of London Fashion Week came in the form of Katie Eary's menswear salon show, held in Somerset House's Portico Rooms on Wednesday. Always a hotly-anticipated display, this season was no exception as the designer delved into womenswear for the first time alongside her usual men's designs.
Described by Eary as a twisted notion between 'Frankenstein's lab meets 50's American high school varsity', the show didn't disappoint. Her trademark use of colour was of course present in the form of slime greens, fluoros and metallics, vibrant neon pinks, blacks, orange gold and purple. Textures varied with each look; tough leather biker trousers and jackets, rubber parkas, opulent furs, softly knitted jumpers with ostrich feather details, shiny leopard print shirts, and laser cut leather all blended together seamlessly. Accessories were dripping with Eary's signature gold spikes and studs, and footwear came in the form of adapted Nike Air trainers featuring carved wood platform soles for the boys and wooden wedges encased with gold-studded leather straps for the girls.
The womenswear was undoubtedly my highlight of the show, and something I hope she carries on with in future seasons. Harry Potter actress Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) modelled a pink leopard print shirt under ostrich feather jumper, and the floor length, open-fronted green leopard print chiffon dress was incredible, worn with stockings and a lime green, laser-cut patent leather waspie. The designer herself wore the dress (though admittedly not the stockings...) to last night's GQ dinner, hosted by Dylan Jones in honour of menswear day.
Though it may not be a collection to everyone's tastes, I am constantly impressed with Eary's creativity, imagination and use of colour - it's always nice to see something that stands out amongt the black banality of fashion week!
