This week saw the launch of The Shoe Salon at Harrods, a sumptuous lounge housing the world's greatest designers and their incredibly beautiful creations.
The 18,000 square foot space is home to over 3,500 pairs of shoes, with over 120 brands on offer including everything from Kurt Geiger and UGG to Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. A host of influential designers have created exclusives to mark the launch, including Giuseppe Zanotti bejewelled wedges, Christian Louboutin crystal studded stilettos, Brian Atwood floral embellished sandals, Gina crocodile heels and Charlotte Olympia sumptuous satin purple platforms.
Bespoke shoes are available from several designers; Giuseppe Zanotti for example boasts a range of styles whereby the skin, colour, heel or crystal embellishment can all be created to a customer's individual specification. Prices in the Salon range from a mere £25 for KG jellies and espadrilles to an eye-watering £9,000 for two styles of boots from the Stuart Weitzman customisation collection. The sumptuously decorated Salon is decadently Art Deco in style; classicism combines with the spirit and true glamour of the Golden Era in the form of sorbet coloured marbles, solid brass fixtures and lacewood veneers. The floor is a sleek, sparkling ice blue, glass composite, punctuated by Guggenheim inspired brass trims that make sweeping curves and statement lines. The look is completed with specially commissioned George Smith one-off pieces of furniture in bold prints and a magnificent colonnade of chandeliers.
Tuesday night's launch party saw a host of familiar faces grace the Salon with their presence. I rubbed shoulders with the likes of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, George Lamb, Cara Delevigne, Jo Wood, Pixie Geldof and Rosamund Pike. The goody bag also didn't disappoint, containing a gorgeous Bally leather notebook, stiletto cupcake from Cox, Cookies and Cake, court shoe-shaped cookie from Biscuiteers, mini bottle of pink Edgerton gin, Leighton Denny nail varnish and Nina Ricci perfume samples. Marigay McKee, Fashion and Beauty Director at Harrods says; “Our clients seek out unique pieces and truly value outstanding service. The elegant and chic environment will enhance their experience, whilst offering the perfect showcase to discover exquisite shoes to be worn and treasured for years to come.”
