Sultry Summer Scents

Love London

Some gorgeous new perfumes have hit the shelves this summer, the perfect excuse for cashing in your Boots points or splashing out at the duty free!

I adore the new Penhaligon's Peoneve, inspired by a blossoming English garden in the height of summer, it's fresh floral layers making a pleasant change from traditional rose scents. Opening with a burst of greenness from Violet Leaf absolute, the scent has a heart of luscious Peony, peppery Bulgarian Rose and a powerful white floral note courtesy of Hedione. The sensual base notes add a sense of summer abandon to the scent; earthy Vetiver, mischievous Musk and warm Cashmere Wood. The latest addition to the Penhaligon's portfolio was created by master perfumer Olivier Cresp, creator of Thierry Mugler's iconic Angel. Bored and raised in Grasse, Provence - the spiritual home of fragrance - and has been Master Perfumer of renowned international perfume producer Firmenich since 2006. []Peoneve[/b] is currently available exclusively at Harvey Nichols, where it forms part of the Penhaligon's multi-sensory garden that has taken over the fifth floor terrace, complete with an innovative cocktail and dessert menu. It will be available nationwide form August 13th. www.penhaligons.com

Moschino's Pink Bouquet is another deliciously summery scent. A bright and intense burst of energy, it's a radiant medley of notes, capturing the senses with the explosive freshness of Bergamot and Pineapple Sorbet, delightfully awakened by Peony and romantic pink Lily of the Valley, intensified by intensified by mystical Jasmine. The floral heart is exquisitely laced with Gingerbread and mouth‐watering Peach, for a sweet addiction. In the base Cosmone, an intense and elegant moss, gives the composition a smooth texture. Encased in a gorgeous heart-shaped pink bottle, it's available nationwide from £29.50.

Finally, though not a scent you can wear, I had to mention to mouthwateringly scented candles from master of macarons Pierre Hermé. The Herbes d'Amandes candle pictured is one of a duo in the brand's range of lifestyle gifts. Created by Pierre Hermé in collaboration with master perfumer Jean-Michel Duriez, the name Herbe d’Amandes, suggests a sophisticated bouquet of aromas in which the captivating power of tonka bean from Mexico is enlightened by the green, herbal notes of yerba maté. The second candle in the range, Sucre de Boise, was created with Parisian perfumer Olivia Giacobetti, and is filled with luscious notes of muscovado sugar, maple, Bourbon vanilla and passion fruit. They smell almost good enough to eat, but I recommend you stick with the deliciously mouthwatering macarons - I accompanied my summer scents with the classic Rose flavour! The candles (from £23.00) and macarons (£1.85 each) are available from the Pierre Hermé shop at 13 Lowndes Street London SW1X, or at the concession in Selfridges Food Hall. www.pierreherme.com
