Sometimes in the world of fashion, you come across something so iconic, so world-renowned, it doesn't need an explanation. Step forward Chanel's Little Black Jacket. A staple of the French fashion house since the early days of Coco herself, this classic has been revisited in a new book by Karl Lagerfeld and former French Vogue Editor, Carine Roitfeld.
Opening at the Saatchi Gallery this October following outings in Tokyo, New York, Taipei and Hong Kong, a photography exhibition will showcase the book's images, taken by Lagerfeld himself and styled by Roitfeld.
The public will discover the versatility and timelessness of the iconic Chanel jacket through Karl Lagerfeld's 113 photographs, modelled on a range of friends of the House, with each personality adapting the garment to reflect their own inimitable style - worn as a cape on singer Lily Allen, draped around model Stella Tennant, or even transformed into a vest on model Edie Campbell.
Running simultaneously with the exhibition, window displays in Chanel's Bond Street, Sloane Street and Brompton Cross boutiques will present a selection of jackets from the latest collections.
“The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL's classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld,”* will be available worldwide in bookstores this autumn, and the exhibitions will run from Friday 12th to Sunday 28th October at the Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York’s HQ, King's Road, London, SW3 4RY. (Opening hours: 10:00AM-6:00PM, 7 days a week, last entry 5:30PM. Free admission.)
