Avid readers of the blog may remember last year I brought you news of a wonderful Covent Garden spa, Thai Square, which continues to bless the West End with the treatments of the Far East. Well my friends, earlier this year said spa opened a second branch in The City - the perfect excuse to head east myself and bring you a review...
As with the original branch, the new Thai Square Spa aims to relax and indulge with an authentic menu of Thai-inspired treatments. Situated within a hotel, a stone's throw from Aldgate on the road down to Tower Bridge, it's the ideal location for stressed city workers to take time out for a spot of pampering. I visited one particularly cold and blizzardy winter's afternoon, and could not wait to get through those doors and be enveloped in its cosy warmth.
With four treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure stations, Thai Square Spa City offers a series of Full, Half Day and Sampler Thai Spa packages, alongside a comprehensive treatments menu of facials, massages and body treatments. All products used for treatments are premium Thai herbal skincare ranges, such as Panpuri made in Thailand and inspired by ancient Thai herbal remedies and rituals. The Thai remedies selected include herbs, flowers and roots to create a range of products that are dedicated to the wellbeing of the mind, body and soul.
Each Thai spa treatment begins with an exotic Thai herbal tea on arrival and a traditional floral foot soak; my Traditional Thai Massage was no exception. An hour of pure, unadulterated bliss, I inevitably fell asleep (as I always do...) curing my treatment - a sure sign it was a great success. On such a dull and freezing day it was utterly sublime to melt away the cares and stresses of the week - it was in fact better than the massage I had when actually in Thailand...
There's no better time than now to sample the menu, as we approach Thai New Year which takes place next week. Traditionally known as Songkran – the Water Splashing Festival - it is a symbol of the washing away of all bad spirits and making a new start and is celebrated from the 13th - 15th April 2013. To celebrate, Thai Square Spa City is offering customers two exclusively developed Royal treatments, deeply rooted in Thai tradition.
The Siamese Courtiers Remedy (2 hours 30 minutes, £240) has been developed using the long kept secret rituals of the Siamese courtiers. Utterly uplifting to leave you in a state of total relaxation, the royal Thai body ritual begins with a sweet scented mild scrub to revitalize your body, followed by a royal Thai massage, using a hot herbal compress to loosen tight muscles and improve circulation. The treatment finishes with the application of body butter containing natural herbal extracts to nurture and moisturize the skin.
Alternatively the Thai Square Royal Jade (1 hour 30 minutes, £150), is a hot stone jade body massage. Jade has long been considered a symbol of beauty, power and good health within the court of Siam and due to its high content of silica is believed to strengthen the kidneys, liver and heart, reduce inflammation and increase blood circulation. With the attendance of an experienced therapist, the treatment begins with a head massage using acupressure techniques. The body is then enveloped in warm scented oils. The heat from the Jade stone relaxes the muscles enabling a deeper massage. You will leave feeling total rejuvenated with your mind and body in total harmony.
They both sound a little too tempting to resist and, judging by my previous Thai Square Spa experiences, they would be well worth the visit.
