Windsor Castle

There is lots to see in London, but also in the area there is lots to see. One of my favorite places to visit is Windsor Castle. You can get there either by coach or train. The train is faster, but expencive. Windsor itself is a lovely little village with a theatre ( it is beautiful and it has some good shows), some lovely views and lots to do. Windsor Castle can be seen from almost everywhere. It is a very impressive sight. When you visit the Castle, please be aware of the safety issues they have there. They can take some time. Once inside the Castle area you see the magnificence of the castle. I was very impressed with it. The gardens are beautiful and the walk to the castle is a nice one. I visited the Castle twice and I was equally impressed by it. Not only of what I saw, but also of the history of the building. It goes a long way back. You can find out about it when you search the internet. For me it was amazing to follow in the footsteps of so many historical figures. You can spend a whole day there if you take your time to see everything. One of the things that is a must see is Queen Mary's Doll House. It is beautiful and even has running water. The details are really amazing. Even the books you see are real. They were created especially for this Doll House.

There are also very interesting exhibitions. When I last visited the Castle they had one on the 60th birthday of Prince Charles. They even displayed letters he sent to his Grandmother (the Queen Mother) when he was 8 years old. You can check the Castles website for details on exhibitions. The Castle itself breathes history. If only the walls could talk. Sometimes I wish that when I visit ancient buildings. You can visit the spot where the Great Fire started on 20 November 1992. There is also a room where they have tapestries that were restored after the fire. It is amazing to see how wonderful they restored them. it took my breath away.

St Georges Chapel is the place where Prince Charles and Camilla received a blessing from the Archbishop of Canterbury after their marriage in 2005. You can also visit the graves of some very important people in English history, including King Henry VIII, King Edward IV and many more. It is a lovely chapel in my opinion. There are also some ceremonies of changing guards. You can find out all about that when on the day you visit the Castle.

After visiting the Castle there is lots to do in Windsor itself. You can visit Eton, in the summer you can board boats for a trip on the Thames. There are lots of shops for those who want to shop. You can have a good meal in the many restaurants, and even see a show in the theatre. Windsor also has some good hotels for if you would spend a night there, so you can visit the Windsor Legoland Park the next day. Or maybe you want to visit the Royal Windsor Racecourt to see some horse racing. Or maybe you want to explore the Great Park. There are many things to see and lots of activity going on. Windsor is ideal for a one or two day trip. If you are getting tired of the hustle and bustle of London, this is the place to go.
