Dogs in London – Pet portraits and illustrations from Brixton

Dogs in London - The London Dog Blog

Most dog owners would like a special portrait of their companion but traditional oil paintings just don’t go with all modern home interiors. However, James does do some good acrylic paintings – with a light style that isn’t kitsch - which cost from £150 and take about six weeks.

But what I really like about this Brixton based artist are his innovative and fun acrylic illustrations – done in bold colours – and featuring the pet’s name within the image. They capture the essence of the personality of your pooch, are thoroughly modern and the colours and canvass size can be chosen to suit your décor. These cost between £80 and £120.

And you don’t even have to take your dog along to a studio hoping that he or she will behave. You choose a selection of your favourite photographs and discuss them with James (over telephone or email) – to select the best pose. Agree the colour. And then he does all the hard work. In about three weeks. Simples.

I’m considering an illustration of my beloved Alfie my Chihuahua – with a red background to fit in with my rather lively retro kitchen-diner design. And I may use the service for presents for some of my best friends and their pooches.

PS James Mayfield does portraits of all pets – not just dogs.
