Awards Season arrived in London in full force last night, with the cream of the world's thespian talent gracing the Royal Opera House for the EE BAFTA Film Awards 2016. While there were undoubtedly some frock horrors stalking the Red Carpet, the sartorial winners are of course of more interest. Here are my pick of the bunch...
Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen When it comes to red carpet dressing there is always a trump card - last night it was this. Cate's bespoke creation was reminiscent of the McQueen of old, a fitting tribute seeing as last week saw six years since the designer left us. The perfect shape for her statuesque frame, the meticulous metallic embroidery and feathered skirt certainly stole my heart.
Kate Winslet in Antonio Berardi Kate certainly injected some va va voom into proceedings in this slinky asymmetric number. Hugging her curves in all the right places, it was perfectly accessorised with a sexy tousled wave and a scarlet lip. She knows what she's doing; a winner in every sense of the word.
Saoirse Ronan in Burberry I love seeing a starlet grow up on the Red Carpet (see also the winning wardrobes of Kiernan Shipka and Maisie Williams in recent years...) and Saoirse's custom Burberry dress might just be her sartorial coming of age. Slick, sophisticated and oh so classy, with just the right blend of grown up glamour and casual insouciance; the chunky metallic platform, casual do and minimal make up keep it youthful. Bravo.
Olga Kurylenko in Ralph & Russo In a night where a surprising number chose white for their Red Carpet moment (Isla Fisher and Julianne Moore) Olga Kurylenko's Ralph & Russo gown from their SS16 couture collection stole the show. A relative newcomer on the block, the only British couture house has been steadily rising through the Red Carpet ranks in recent years, with good reason. Their intricate embroidery and embellishments, teamed with chic time-honoured cuts and shapes reminiscent of days gone by make for the most striking of silhouettes.
Dakota Johnson in Dior If I had Dakota's figure, I too would have plumped for this sultry, strappy, silk number. Strikingly simple, unfailingly chic and oh so sexy; the natural hair and slick of lippy make me love it even more.
