You really can’t go wrong with a scented candle at Christmas; indulgent, luxurious and something that’s all too easy to self-gift while you’re doing your festive shopping. There’s still time to pick up a couple of purchases this week before the big day, or of course to simply help you carry on the warming fragrance of Christmas even after the celebrations are long gone.

Its aromatic, spicy scent opens with citrus orange and lemon, followed by rich, warm cinnamon and clove with hints of floral jasmine, on a base of woods and musk. It’s an all-enveloping fragrance, filling the house with warmth within minutes. You won’t be able to tear yourself away. £55 at www.sophiejamesmayfair.com

The Love Sleep Seduction candle from This Works is designed to help set the scene for sleep and sex with its romantic, sensual scent. The 13 Desserts offering from L’Occitane smells unbelievably delicious; think dried fruits, cinnamon, sweet orange and brown sugar - it’s the scent of Stir Up Sunday.
