FIVE EATS TO TRY THIS WEEK

Love London

Continuing our quest to bring you some of the most delicious suggestions you can find for grub at home, here's our pick of some tasty treats to try from your kitchen this week.

1. A ROGUE DINNER DELIVERY

Whether you fancy a feast of something new or a classic roast dinner, culinary duo Rogues London has launched “Rogues at Home” kits, with weekly changing Friday night feasts and a Sunday spread with all the trimmings, offering customers restaurant-quality food from at home.

Themed boxes include Mexican fiestas (think tacos and Mexican pulled pork), Turkish mezzo and an Italian feast of beef shin ragu and tiramisu for £20 per person - ensuring that no two Friday nights are the same. My eyes are on the BBQ box. For Sunday roasts choose between dry-aged beef sirloin, stuffed & rolled pork belly, half a roast poussin or black garlic and spinach stuffed mushroom, each served with the likes of Hasselback roasties, honey glazed carrots & parsnips and port braised red cabbage.

If you want to go all out, Rogues are offering a discount on 4 weeks of their deliveries, every Friday feast and Sunday roast at 20% off totaling £128 per person. For more details on dates and order cut offs, visit www.rogueslondon.uk

2. GET YOUR WING FIX

Wing kings Wingshack Co (pictured top) now deliver their much-loved menu all over London. I first tried these bad boys at 2019’s WingFest (yup… that’s a chicken wing festival) and was hooked. These are no ordinary wings; the kitchen team use flavours from across the world to create their distinct, much-loved sauces. Featuring everything from classic marinades like BBQ and Southern Fried Chicken, you can choose from the likes of Mango Mazzaline, a sweet mango sauce; and Jarv’s Tangy Buffalo. Veggies need not worry, as The Big Halloumi, The Edgy Veggie (traditional Greek halloumi, marinated portobello mushroom, tomato relish, hummus, sliced onion and fresh lettuce), and the Jackfruit Smoky BBQ Burger will satisfy any cravings for a gloriously messy bite.

3. TRY A PLANT-BASED PIZZA

For those still on Veganuary (well done for getting this far) but craving a pizza, Vegan Dough Co could be your knights in shining armour. They have a brilliant offering of plant-based pizza kits; I’m loving the sound of The Godfather, with spicy vegan nduja, broccolini and green olives on top of a rich tomato sauce, beautifully melted vegan mozzarella and a soft and doughy base. Available from www.restaurantkitsuk.com

4. GET A MICHELIN-STARRED SCANDI FEAST AT HOME

Try one of Aquavit London’s brand-new DIY delivery kits and you could almost imagine enjoying it on the summery shores of a Scandinavian lake. Available nationwide, Head Chef Jorjon Colazo has created three exciting seasonal sharing menus that are sure to impress. Designed for two to share, choose from the Meat box (£80), Pescatarian box (£90) or Vegetarian box (£60).

The Meat box features delicious dishes such as black pudding with lardo and pulled venison bao buns to start, Aquavit’s signature Swedish meatballs with lingonberries and pickled cucumber; and beef Rydberg with caramelised onion, onion purée, confit egg yolk, horseradish cream for mains. Pescatarians can enjoy gravlax with mustard and dill sauce, and langoustine bao buns with coleslaw, pickles and seaweed mayonnaise; followed by Houghton Springs Trout with Sandefjord sauce, and Icelandic cod papillote, with smoked mussels, Atlantic prawns, hayselden potato and samphire.

For those following a plant-based diet, the vegetarian box comes with Nordic classics of pickled and fermented vegetables, and roasted heritage beetroot salad with smoked vegan cheese, with main dishes of kroppkakor (traditional Swedish boiled potato dumplings), with mushrooms, lingonberries and brown butter; and braised chicory with chestnut purée and warm quinoa salad.

Orders will be sent out each Wednesday to arrive on Thursday. Order online from www.aquavitrestaurants.com or via Slerp - https://aquavit.slerp.com/order. Orders must be placed before 11pm on Tuesday for the Thursday delivery.

5. INDULGE YOUR SWEET TOOTH

Cutter & Squidge is one of my favourite London bakeries, so if you're going to treat your sweet tooth it comes personally recommended! Their signature Biskies - a sandwiched dessert that is a cross between a cake and a cookie filled with a cream and other delights - are exceptional, but for a real treat you can't beat the cakes.

With flavours like Yuzu Mango, Chocolate Fudge Caramel and Passionfruit and Pistachio, good luck choosing just one. I adores the Apple Pie Cake, with light vanilla sponge matched with cinnamon buttercream, handmade apple jam and digestive crumb, topped with a crown of delicate apple chips and shortbread chunks. Unbelievable. Look away if you're on a New Year diet...
