TASTE ON TRIAL: HONEST BURGERS

Love London

I’m quite sure I am not the only one who is bored to the back teeth of cooking. Something I’ve been seriously craving since lockdown is a bloody great burger, so my joy at last week’s delivery of an Honest Burger home kit was met with unbridled joy. For real.

London’s favourite burger company (ok, well, mine at least) has a choice of three DIY kits on its website; the classic Honest Burger, the jazzed up Tribute Burger or the Plant Burger if you prefer veggie, each available in a kit of two or four. Kits come with everything you need to create a restaurant-quality burger at home along with their famous rosemary salt to add to your own choice of chips or sides.

We plumped for the Honest Burger, a classic failsafe favourite. Delivered to the door, the kit uses recyclable packaging along with WoolCool insulation to keep your food cool, natural wool which can be reused a multitude of ways (and FYI is particularly good for lining hanging baskets and seed trays). With chopped British chuck steak and rib cap patties from the Honest Butchery, British cheddar cheese slices, dry cured smoked bacon rashers, brioche burger buns from The Bread Factory, Honest kitchen red onion relish and pickles and the aforementioned rosemary salt. All the ingredients for a perfect dinner.

Detailed step by step instructions mean even the most kitchen-shy couldn’t mess this one up. A few simple steps, 10-15 minutes and dinner is served. Patties were fried off and finished under the grill with a slice of cheese, bacon grilled until so crispy it snapped, buns lightly toasted, then layered up with the relish. The only additional thing needed that wasn’t in the kit was a little lettuce to finish it off. So easy and unbelievably delicious; not quite as aesthetic as those served up in their restaurants but they were damn tasty. With the rosemary salt shaken over our sweet potato fries, it was almost as good as the real thing.

If you’re craving a burger, you can’t beat Honest. Order online at www.honestburgers.co.uk, from £16 for two burgers + £6 nationwide any day delivery.
