FIVE EATS TO TRY THIS WEEK

Love London

Another week another menu to plan. Take some of the pressure off this week and pimp up your mealtimes with something new; here are five eats we want to try this week.

For Modern Californian: SOLA at Home

After their successful launch for Thanksgiving, Victor Garvey’s modern Californian restaurant SOLA is back with SOLA at Home round two with two new menus, Omnivore (pictured above) and Vegetarian. Seeing as the restaurant won its first Michelin Star this evening, this is one menu I shall definitely be ordering. The Omnivore menu begins with Cured chalk stream trout, dill bavarois and Cold soup of almond and roasted garlic with smoked mussels, chive croutons and roasted tomato coulis, followed by Scallops ‘Diplomate’ baked in the shell with black truffle butter and lemon thyme. The centrepiece A5 Wagyu beef Chateaubriand with Telicherry sauce poivre is accompanied by Radicchio agrodolce and Potatoes Saint Jouvain. Dessert is Dark chocolate croustillant, honey, rosemary, sea salt and there are handmade Mignardises to finish. The Vegetarian menu replaces the cured trout with Pickled beetroot tartare, horseradish bavarois, vegan caviar; substitutes Fondue of ratte potatoes and preserved morels with 36-month Comté for the scallops; and instead of chateaubriand has Jerusalem artichoke Wellington with whole grain mustard, vegetarian demi-glace and roasted red pepper jam as its main course. Both sound fairly irresistible…

Both menus are priced at £89 per person and just forty boxes for two will be on sale every week, plus  selection of wines from SOLA's list will also be available. Orders can be placed until midnight on Sunday for delivery within the M25 on Thursday and nationwide on Friday. Order online at www.solasoho.com

For Soul Food in South London: Bando Belly

There’s a new eatery opened in Peckham Levels this month with its own signature soul food fusion cuisine. Bando Belly’s flavours are inspired by America, the Caribbean, south east Asia and multicultural London, with a unique menu of dishes we can’t wait to try. With dishes like Bara Tacos (fried bread with a chickpea filling), Slow Roasted Lamb Ribs with a South East Asian influence (topped with smacked cucumbers, fish sauce, fresh mint), Soft Shell Crab with a delicious and fragrant soy caramel drizzle, Old Bay seasoned Shrimp, Philly Banh Mi Cheesesteaks, Korean-inspired Fried Chicken Burgers, and its special Deep-Fried Oreos, you might need to loosen your waistband…

Prices for main dishes start from £10 and sides are available from £5. www.bandobelly.com

For the Best Hot Chocolate: Knoops

Ok so this is a drink rather than an eat but it’s worth a mention. Having visited the original Knoops hot chocolate shop in Rye I was beside myself to discover they’d opened in Clapham Junction…just as I was about to move house. With another outpost in Kensington, they are the perfect pistol after a long walk, but their iconic chocolate flakes are also available to buy online to make at home with a host of different strengths to choose from, like the 72% single origin from Peru with notes of banana caramel and cashew. There’s also a great range of recipes to try online at www.knoops.co.uk.
