TASTE ON TRIAL: ROGUES LONDON

Love London

This week’s Taste on Trial comes courtesy of supremos of the London pop up scene, Rogues London. Though their events might not currently be up and running (but we urge you to get one in your diary when they are), founders Freddie and Zac used their newfound time and usual suppliers to deliver fresh produce to friends and family. This quickly expanded to being open to the public and now the duo have launched Rogues at Home, a delivery service offering a series of weekly feast menu and Sunday roasts.

With menus still to come including Italian, Japanese, tapas, Turkish and pie week, as well as Valentine’s and St Patrick’s Day menus, there’s something to tickle every palate. Our Rogues at Home BBQ kit arrived last week ready for a Friday night feast and my, what a feast it was. Easy peasy instructions for reheating meant it was ready in 15 minutes. Meat included slow-cooked roast BBQ brisket, juicy chicken wings and unbelievable cajun BBQ ribs. Sides included a banging mac and cheese, corn on the cob with absolutely delicious red pepper and lime butter, BBQ beans, a fresh, crispy slaw and a creamy potato salad.

The quality of the food was exceptional; think the best BBQ spread you could indulge in at Bodean’s, but fancy restaurant quality instead (sorry Bodean’s…). For £20 a head we were pretty blown away with not only the quantity delivered but the flavour and quality of what we were eating. This week it’s Japanese, with pork or chicken ramen served with slow cooked pork belly, or grilled chicken thigh, soy egg, udon noodles, bean shoots and fresh herb salad, with chicken gyozas and grilled aubergine miso salad. If it’s anything like the BBQ box you’ll want to give it a go.
