CHALLENGE YOUR MATES TO CHESS AT THE STANDARD'S CHESSIDENCY

Love London

Now that the evenings are drawing in (booooo) and roftop bars are becoming less appealing as the weather takes a turn, we're on the lookout for nights out that are, well, more in. Step forward The Chessidency, the brand new night from King's Cross hotel The Standard which will bring out your inner demon as you challenge your friends to a chess off. Yes, you heard that right.

Not necessarily your first thought for a banging night out, but every second Tuesday (including tonight) The Standard's Library Lounge is turned into a chess den, with earnest concentration faces at every table while Donna Leake and Haseeb Iqbal spin some tunes on the decks. Accompanied with the lounge's banging menu of nibbles and cocktails, it's dangerously easy to while away hours if you really get into it (which we did...).

We popped down to one of the first weeks and can vouch for it being a great night; there's something about chess that brings out the competitiveness in all of us and with the number of people totally engaged in their game, we obvioulsy weren't the only ones.

We ordered some pretty epic hot dog sliders, fried chicken bites, macaroni cheese and a burger - proper brain food, you know? - while the classic cocktail list will ensure your thirst is quenched. A legitimately brilliant evening, book your table by emailing [email protected]. Of course if you're planning a late one, you can always do what we did and book a sleepover.. stay tuned for our hotel review coming very soon!
