JAPAN CENTRE'S SAKE DAY CELEBRATIONS

Love London

This year Japan Centre, the UK's premier Japanese Food Hall, is hosting a series of special sake tastings and events to raise a glass to Japan’s most famous export for World Sake Day on 1st October 2021.

World Sake Day (translated to Nihonshu no Hi in Japanese) is an important date in the Japanese calendar with celebrations held annually across the globe. This date is considered “New Year's Day” for sake because it marks the first day of the sake making season in Japan.

Sake Tastings at Japan Centre Ichiba, Westfield London and Japan Centre Leicester Square

Did you know that Japan Centre has 80-100 different kinds of sakes imported from local suppliers? Try before you buy, at one of the upcoming Sake Tastings in celebration of World Sake Day.

On 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 9th, and 10th October both Japan Centre Ichiba at Westfield London and Japan Centre Leicester Square will be hosting sake tastings, from 12pm-5pm. Experience Japan’s famous rice wine, that’s clean-tasting, slightly sweet and with a fruity and nutty scent.

Japan Centre’s in-house Sake Sommelier Sachiko Koyama will also be on-hand to answer any questions about sake brewing, how it’s made, and the different types and classifications of sake.

A tradition that started in 1978, World Sake Day has become a day that Japanese people look forward to, not only because it recognises sake and its contribution to Japanese culture, but it also commemorates the history and the countless skilled brewers working across Japan to make delicious rice wine. The term sake in Japanese refers to all alcoholic drinks and the fermented rice drink that we call sake is known as nihonshu in Japan (which translates as ‘Japanese alcohol’). For a limited time only Japan Centre is offering up to 20% of its sake range, available from its website
