Autumn is here and when it comes to lunchtime, salad just won't cut it any more. Who are we kidding... it never really did. Lucky for us fans of cosy comfort food, LEON's new autumn menu has arrived and boy, is it a good one.
'Rooted in Spice' does exactly what it says on the tin. It's a collection of wholesome, hearty dishes all flavoured to the max with some seriously warming autumn spices; just what the doctor ordered.
First however, let's not forget their breakfast. Championing cosiness, the Spiced Pear, Ginger & Cacao Porridge is the latest addition to the seasonal breakfast spread. Packed with organic oats, juicy apple and pear compote, and gently spiced with cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla, finished with cacao almond butter, cacao nibs, and candied ginger it's likea breakfast a hug in a little cardboard pot. It's time for the basic b**ch Pumpkin Spike Latte to step aside; the Cinnamon Swirl Latte has arrived. Cosy, creamy, packed with cinnamon and vanilla and made with LEON’s triple-certified coffee beans, meaning every cup supports the rainforest, it will become your new favourite in no time.
On to lunch. The vegan Sweet Potato Fritter & Lime Aioli Wrap is sure to be a hit. Packed with nutrients, marrying beetroot and fennel seeds into fritters with baked sweet potato, and topped with caramelised lime aioli, pink kraut and spinach, it's wrapped in a soft khobez flatbread. This hearty lunch is fuel for the soul.
We may have poo-pooed salad but they do actually have some great ones. The Autumn Mezze Salad is packed with flavour, plant-based goodness, and bursts with colour, with warming berbere-spiced butternut squash, sweet potato and beetroot fritters, served with LEON Hummus, seasonal celeriac and kale slaw, and is topped with pink kraut and pomegranate seeds. The new Jerk Chicken Salad features LEON's jerk-inspired chicken, paired with sweet carrot and coconut pickle, sits on a nutritious bed of lentils, kale and crunchy slaw, and is dressed in caramelised lime aioli and fresh herbs.
Our favourite however has to be the uber comforting Black Cardamom Chicken Korma. Definitely a much healthier option than a supermarket microwave version (which, we have to admit, is an oft-purchased office lunch at this time of year...) this aromatic take on a classic Korma fuses fragrant black cardamom with onion petals, cavolo nero, kale, and tender chicken, served with sweet carrot and coconut pickle and garnished with fresh herbs. It's totally delicious, totally rubbish-free and totally our new lunch obsession.
