WHERE WE'RE EATING THIS WEEK

Love London

This city has no shortage of great bites. We’ve had a host of quite frankly delicious sounding dishes land in our inbox this week, so here are some of our favourites.

Battle lines are drawn as two MasterChef heavyweights prepare to face-off for an exclusive ‘Battle of the Champions’ dinner at riverside pub The Oyster Shed next Friday. The Young’s pub will host a one-off supper club as The Oyster Shed’s Head Chef and 2013 MasterChef champion, Natalie Coleman, takes on fellow 2016 winner Jane Devonshire for a six-course feast. With iconic views over the Thames towards London Bridge, experience what promises to be an interactive evening as the two MasterChef winners take to the stove,  creating three dishes as a blind tasting, ending in true cook-off style with diners voting for the dish of night. Priced at £69 per person with welcome Mojito Spritz on arrival, book your spot (it starts at 7pm) via the link here, with an optional pairing upgrade for an additional £25.

Byron is setting tastebuds alight this month with the new Korean Gochubang Burger. With its sweet chilli and gochujang coated, buttermilk fried chicken breast, topped with homemade Byron slaw, drizzled with a Korean style hot sauce mayo and finished with sweet pickles, all encased in a soft bun it’s pretty irresistible, especially with its accompanying pot of spicy marinated cucumbers on the side.

Notting Hill favourite, SUMI, the casual little sister to the Michelin-starred Endo at the Rotunda, has reopened its doors following major work to expand the space. Having firmly cemented its position as one of London’s most loved neighbourhood Japanese restaurants with a raft of rave reviews since opening last year, the restaurant is set to nearly double in size. Guided by Sushi Master, Endo Kazutoshi, SUMI will reopen with a selection of new dishes led by Head Chef, Christian Onia. New signature dishes joining the menu include Seafood Gohan, that features an array of seafood from scallops and octopus to tiger prawns, clams and trout roe; and Kombu-aged ribeye with brown butter ponzu, kizami wasabi and yuzu salt. SUMI’s classic nigiri, temaki and sashimi remain, alongside house favourites such as tuna tataki and Royal Oscietra caviar.

New pub and dining room The Holland opened last week just off Kensington High Street. Formerly The Princess Victoria, the new space from chef Max de Nahlik, serves up a seasonal, British-ingredient-led menu with meat from The Ethical Butcher, fish and seafood from Celtic Fish & Game and Henderson’s, and flour for the slow-ferment, country-style sourdough which he bakes in-house from Wild Farmed. Believing that the best way to showcase this great produce from what he calls “the UK’s wild larder” is by letting it speak for itself, Max’s “unpretentious and fun” menu is international in outlook and tends towards simplicity. Guests can tuck in to spiced crab on toast, tomatoes, peach, chilli and pangrattato with smoked tofu and pork collar steak with greengage chutney, kohlrabi & beetroot.

The new autumn menu is in full swing from French favourite Côte. With seasonality front and centre, the new menu celebrates the changing of the seasons and the slower pace of autumnal living using seasonal British ingredients, such as the humble fig, rope-grown Scottish mussels from the Shetland Islands and British Granny Smith apples. Favourites include Dingley Dell Pork Tomahawk, served with luxurious truffled potato purée, roasted garlic, crunchy French beans, and a smooth Calvados apple jus and an almond financier: a delicious baked French almond cake with blackberry compote, vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce. Midweek diners can enjoy Côte's 'Prix Fixe' selection, a seasonal menu of revamped French classics such as Steak Frites and Coq Au Vin, with two courses from £14.95 and three from £18.95.
The menu is available now, until 11th Octoboer.
