Tucked away in the basement of the Hilton London Park Lane lies London's newest steakhouse, MR PORTER. The modern steakhouse, bar and lounge is an import from Amsterdam, home to a very Mayfair menu of indulgent signature steaks, fire-grilled fish, caviar-laced carpaccios and high-energy cocktails at its 360° bar. Descending the spiral staircase to some blistering beats, this is instant glamour. Grab a seat at the bar, a stunning art deco vibe with mirrored panelling hanging above it reflecting the soft curves and subtle shades of the room, full of velvet, wood and natural stone. Designers Baranowitz + Kronenberg were inspired by the heydays of Mayfair, echoing its infamous spirit through some seriously elegant design work.
The cocktail list is exquisitely crafted. We loved the Reserve Appeltini with Grey Goose, green apple, lemon and apple prosecco foam, while the Margarita Rivera was a delicious punch of Patrón Silver, thyme liqueurm grapefruit, lime, agave and peppercorn. While it would be possible to spend the whole evening at the bar, it would be a shame to miss the main event.
The high ceilinged dining room is a spot to be seen in - there is after all a certain clientele to this part of town. The menu at MR PORTER 'blends timeless favourites with distinctive signature dishes' such as the roast beef carpaccio, avocado carpaccio with Beluga caviar, and the prawn salad with grilled corn avocado and dried chilli sauce. We tucked in to starters of spicy yellowtail sashimi and a fantastic jumbo prawn salad with grilled corn, avocado and dried chilli sauce, followed - of course - by one of their fantastic steaks (it would be rude not to). The sirloin was perfect, with sides of skinny fried with basil aioli and tenderstem broccoli with black garlic. We finished off with an absolutely sublime pistachio fondant, warm and gooey, absolutely delicious.
MR PORTER is full of glamour, from the stunning bar to the elegant dining. With a refined menu cooked to perfection, it's worth adding to your Mayfair dining list.
