Do you tell yourself every year you're going to take up a new hobby? Well we have the perfect things for you, as Brixton ceramics studio Earthworks is holding an open studio event the first weekend of December to encourage you to try something new.
Brixton has always been a hub of creativity with a vibrant arts scene, and whether you're looking for a one-off workshop, or embarking on a longer creative path, Earthworks has you covered. A thriving artist-run ceramics hub, since opening doors almost two years ago, Earthworks has grown into a warm, creative home for makers of all levels. Built around collaboration, the artists who run Earthworks share not only their tools, materials, and technical knowledge, but also their passion for clay, creativity and experimentation. Small class sizes and layout ensure generous one-to-one guidance, whilst a bespoke curriculum encourages students to explore their interests, develop at their own pace, and form a deeply personal relationship with the craft.
Earthworks was created from a desire to establish more artist-run ceramic spaces in Southwest London, places where creativity and community come first. Juliet and Joshua met during their studies at the Royal College of Art, and together they’ve shaped Earthworks into a friendly, well-supported and equipped studio for recent graduates, local artists and emerging potters who are seeking a professional and welcoming home.
To mark this new chapter, Earthworks will host an Open Studio, will be throwing competitions, demos and a winter show showcasing members’ work between 11am-6pm on 6th December and 11am-4pm on 7th December, inviting the public to explore the expanded studio, meet the community and discover unique ceramic pieces made in Brixton.
In the lead up to the Open Studio, Earthworks are offering 20% off their Saturday and Sunday Taster Classes when you book two, between 21 November – 7 December.
