Call us boujis but we're big fans of Donutelier's gourmet doughnuts. These aren't your average sweet treat, oh no. Its original menu includes some deliciously elegant bites, delicately crafted fresh each day in its London shops with flavours like pistachio - with Chantilly cream and pistachio varigato filling, pistachio nibs and crispy raspberries, pistachio ganache and an almond sable disc - and the frankly indecently good Honoré, with toffee caramel and blonde chocolate ganache filling, hazelnut and chocolate crust, Chantilly cream, in a caramelised vanilla cream profiterole doughnut. Dreamy.
One would assume that such indulgence might be sickly sweet and a little too much, alas - we can absolutely confirm they are as light as a feather and dangerously moreish. Donutelier has also just launched its three limited edition Christmas flavours and we were lucky enough to sink our teeth into them... all in the name of research of course.
First up is the Spiced Apple Tutu. The crème pâtissière filling is lighter than air, with a crisp vanilla sugar crust, Chantilly cream, spiced almond sable disc and caramelised apples. We loved the flavour, delicate and seasonal (and definitely one of your five a day...). The Berry Glissé has a crème pâtissière filling, frutti di bosco filled white chocolate shell, soft meringue, crispy raspberries, raspberry pearls and crispy yoghurt. It's gooey and gorgeous, with a real berry hit and a jolly festive sprinkling of gold leaf. Our favourite however has to be the Pistachio Pirouette; pistachio pâtissière filling, pistachio praline filled chocolate shell, chocolate disc, pistachio Chantilly and pistachio nibs. Being the pistachi-hoes we are it was devoured in seconds. This is definitely our hit of the season - utterly delicious and dangerously moreish.
The three limited edition festive flavours are available from its three branches - Charing Cross Road, Carnaby Street and Strand - now, from £6.50 each.
