RELAX AND UNWIND WITH A SPA SESSION AT THAI SQUARE

Love London

Spending a dreary Sunday afternoon in a cosy subterranean spa sounds almost too good to be true, yet at Thai Square Spa it's a delightful reality.

The central London spa - right next to Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross station - is housed within an original Victorian Turkish bath that inspired its decor, with Thai, Roman and Turkish influences. Alongside an extensive treatment menu, guests are treated to an hour session with each appointment to enjoy the spa facilities, with its sauna and steam rooms, jacuzzi and ice fountain as well as two relaxation areas serving refreshing teas.

With treatments ranging from therapeutic bathing experiences and facials, to scalp and foot treatments, scrubs and wraps, it's the extensive massage menu we were keen to try out. Whether your preference is hot stone, aromatherapy, or the traditional Thai massage, there's something for all. We plumped for the latter, and enjoyed our spa time before slipping into a cotton tunic and bottoms ready for action.

For the unfamiliar, Thai massage is an energising, full-body therapy that uses assisted stretching, rhythmic pressure, and yoga-like movements to loosen muscles and balance the body’s energy. The therapist began on my back, expertly kneading out some nasty knots, before moving to massage the legs, arms and head. It's a unique experience, not just the sweeping movements of a classic Swedish style massage but supremely therapeuric stretches that can't fail to leave you feeling revived and refreshed. It's an oil-free massage, quite nice if you're heading off somewhere afterwards, and it really did relive a lot of built up tension in the body. It's a gorgeous experience, and definitely one to save for a rainy afternoon when you want to forget what's going on above ground.
