Ethical puppy and dog training treats from Pooch & Mutt

Dogs in London - The London Dog Blog

In our house dog treats are a must - whether it’s to coax Alfie into his space when we are about to go out or to reward good behaviour (yeah right) when he’s with us. Then, of course, I keep them handy to ease my guilt when he looks longingly at me when I am eating and don’t share my dinner.

Alfie sniffed suspiciously when I offered him one of the chicken based breath freshening treats but once he got the taste he was happy. He now knows in which cupboard I keep the brightly coloured tube and is there in a flash when I go near it.

Did the lamb based calming version (with camomile in a soft lilac coloured tube) work? Who knows – Alfie is an lively dog so it was hard to tell whether there was any real impact. Maybe with longer use I’ll know…

These Pooch & Mutt treats are natural, ethical (with awards from The Ethical Organisation and PETA), low-calorie, gluten-free, hand-baked mini-bones. I like the fact that they are small enough for a Chihuahua (some larger treats I have to break up) but will do just fine for a larger dog. And I can keep a handful in my coat pocket or bag without fear of emitting a doggy smell or needing to keep them wrapped up.

There are seven varieties of treats – fresh breath, calm & relaxed, charity chicken, active mobility, brain & train, digestion & wind and puppy development. Pooch & Mutt also produce food supplements. Bionic Biotic, which reduces itching, is a best seller (£9.99 for 200g – or a sample pack is £2) and salmon oil (for Omega 3) comes in 500 ml bottle for £12.99. There are also products to help mobility. There’re various testimonials from other dog owners on the web site about the effectiveness of the various remedies available.

At £2.99 for a 125g tube of 150 treats (it comes down to £2.67 if you buy a six pack) they’re reasonably priced.
A British company with offices in Clapham, orders must be made online at http://www.poochandmutt.com/ or by calling 0844 247 2122. Mine arrived in the post (free postage in the UK) the next day so delivery is quick. And there’s a reassuring money back guarantee.

They exhibit at the major shows (Discovering Dogs and Crufts) so you can say “Hi” to them there and sample the products. The products are also available at selected pet stores such as Pets at Home and even in Waitrose. It’s also nice to know that they also do their bit for charity by matching every order from a rescue centre with the same amount of free product.
