Three of the best winter boots

Love London

I'm sure I'm not the only one with a penchant for a black ankle boot, the ultimate goes-with-everything footwear. Get it right and you can locate one that's chic enough to be your Christmas party staple without being a killer on the old trotters. This season there is a also host of hikers in the shops that will toughen up a cute frock whilst still providing a suitable tread to survive a day on London's rainy streets without stacking it. Here are three of my faves.

Marks & Spencer's leather stiletto heel ankle boots (£65) are made with their signature Insolia technology, meaning despite the spike they're comfy enough to dance the night away in. I can't stop thinking about them. I'm sorry, HOW chic? They're in my shopping bag ready for party season. www.marksandspencer.com

Despite trying desperately to find a more purse-friendly alternative, I may have to give in and invest in Grenson's infamous Nanette boots (£285). Beloved by the slebs, this chunky but lightweight hiker boot has become instantly recognisable, super light to wear despite its thick commando sole. I like to think they'd last for many a year, properly looked after of course, so technically the cost per wear will be totally justified, right? www.grenson.com

Last but my no means least, my current favourites, the Album buckled ankle boots from Office. My standard day to day style, a buckled ankle boot with a little bit of gold is the ultimate failsafe footwear choice. I've had boots like this before I'v worn to death, so there might be two pairs of these purchased because I will undoubtedly end up with them on my feet every day until summer. And maybe even through summer too... Currently reduced from £89 to £60 at www.office.co.uk
