With its towering twists and spiralling staircase this eye-catching steel construction wouldn’t look out of place in an amusement park, however it was actually erected to commemorate the London 2012 Games. The structure is named after the world’s biggest steel company ArcelorMittal, although 60% of the metal used had been recycled.

Located to the south of the Olympic Park in Stratford, it’s part sculpture (renowned artist Anish Kapoor is behind the design) part attraction, as visitors can travel the 80 metres up to the viewing platform at the top via a lift or by climbing over 400 steps. From here the scenery stretches for 20 miles around, including full views of the Olympic Park, The Shard, Canary Wharf, and even Big Ben and the BT Tower. There are also two large concave mirrors here for special effect.

The giant steel construction ArcellorMittal opened in 2012 in time for the Olympics. With a height of 115 metres, visitors climb or take the lift up 400 steps to a viewing platform from where they can gaze over the city. They've now added a slide - not just any old slide, but the world's tallest and longest. What this means is 40 seconds of fun to swirl around the construction a dozen times, before landing back on the ground.
