Named after the large area of open grassland which separates it from neighbouring Greenwich, Blackheath has a real village feel about it and a lively community. The village makes for a great shopping destination featuring, restaurants, cafés, bars and pubs. It also plays host to a lively farmers’ market every Sunday with stalls selling a variety of produce including wine, olives, goats cheese and free-range meat and poultry.
There are numerous shops, from quaint independent bookshops to Neal’s Yard Remedies, art galleries and craft shops. There is also no shortage of places to eat either, as you’ll find pubs, fish and chip shops, delicatessens and restaurants that offer Italian, Chinese, Spanish and British cuisine amongst others.
The heath itself is an important attraction, with people turning up with picnics or just to have a wander around. The annual fireworks display is one of the most popular in the UK, with over 40,000 people turning up to watch.
