In the 1960s Carnaby Street, along with the King’s Road, was London’s fashion mecca. The epitome of Swinging London, it inspired songs by The Kinks and The Jam, even making an appearance on an episode of The Simpsons. While it doesn’t have quite the same swing to it nowadays (see what we did there?)it’s still a popular shopping haunt, albeit mostly for tourists. A large arched sign marked ‘Welcome to Carnaby Street’ attempts to emulate the entrance to a quaint village, and while the multi-coloured shop fronts retain much of its Victorian charm, this is a modern, bustling shopping street. Upmarket high street brands like Evisu, Miss Sixty and Fred Perry populate the pedestrianised thoroughfare, and you’ll find restaurants and bars aplenty on nearby Kingly Street.
