A wonderful legacy from the 1948 London Olympics, the Herne Hill Velodrome is a still a world class cycling track of 450 metres (with the steepest section banking at 30 degrees). It has become an important ground for developing British cyclists and will no doubt enjoy another revival following the great success of British cyclists in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The site has always been a place for novices and seasoned cyclists to ride alongside each other and this is part of it's appeal. It is also this broad base of visitors that has kept it going for all these years.
Herne Hill featured prominently in the build-up to the London 2012 Games as a practice ground.
