The Eagle Bar is a New York-style diner that is a welcome haven from the hustle and bustle of one of London's busiest streets. Hearty breakfasts are available for those who can stomach it and for the afternoon shoppers burgers, salads and afternoon tea are all the rage. By the evening, The Eagle transforms itself into a lively venue with an amazing cocktail bar.

All In London Review

Value for money cocktails, good food and music, but slight lack of ambience

Cocktails at the Eagle are very special indeed, the Peanut Butter Martini being a long term favourite for myself and my peers. For a serious drinking experience try the Flaming Eagle, a freak of a drink served in a martini glass that consists of a layer of champagne, a layer of cassis, and a layer of absinthe, to be drunk through a straw whilst set alight, literally ‘flaming’. I gave up trying to get through this concoction on my second attempt much to the bemusement of the staff, who recognised our faces from our weekly appearances and thought it highly amusing to watch us squirm in our seats whilst attempting to sip this highly alcoholic mixture.

Other wonders of the drinks menu are the Bjork Punch, a blend of Icelandic vodka, guava and lychee juice, and the self explanatory and extremely addictive apple and cinnamon martini. Prices begin at £7.25 and rise to nearly the £10 mark, however this is one of few places where you truly get your money’s worth at the bar.

Food is also good here; exotic burgers of kangaroo and pesto or ostrich and cranberry can be sampled, as well as other surprisingly delicious combos of lamb, hummus and aubergine, and walnut and cheese veggie burgers; there is also a take away menu.

As with most venues dotted around the West End it does get extremely busy at weekends, annoyingly reservations are only accepted for parties of 6 or more. Christmas time is best avoided as every office in W1 seems to congregate here for their festive do, for the ensuing month the Eagle is almost too empty by comparison.

The music policy is well above average here, and any serious dance aficionado will be appeased by the staffs’ partiality to playing DJ’s such as Kevin Saunderson and Green Velvet, but in spite of this as a venue the Eagle can feel a little impersonal at times, tables are far away from each other and large groups gather round each, there is no real ‘ambience’ as such, the feel is much more that of a restaurant than a bar. On the other hand it’s the perfect place for catching up with friends over good drinks and food without having to interact with your neighbours.

Awesome burgers, good cocktails but sometimes a bit quiet during the week. Often undercharge which is always a bonus!
