All In London Review
A solid local with an attractive range of beer
Housed beneath a looming set of purpose-built 1960’s tower blocks, the Old Red Cow literally had the weight of the local neighbourhood on its shoulders. And then it closed down. But huzzah, it has reopened under a new banner to serve up something new to Queen’s Road Peckham. Now known as the Copper Tap, the new pub has taken trends into account and delivered a pub that anyone would feel happy stopping into. Now, let’s be honest, this isn’t the prettiest stretch of real estate in Peckham and the imposing flats don’t offer the warmest of welcomes, so we’re not ashamed to admit to our surprise when we discover a stylish bare brick and wood panelled den when we visit on a Friday night.
There are sixteen taps lined up, serving a range of cask ales and craft beer from a small selection of local breweries, as well as a short cocktail menu. Our only issue with the Copper Tap is the one associated with the flat screen in the corner. Fine, it shows live football (which is good to know) but with an impeccably coiffed mod spinning soul - and strictly sticking to 45’s at that - we’re taking a stand for him in saying it has absolutely no right being switched on – even if it is muted. Added to the DJ and the sports, it runs a Sunday quiz night and weekly beer specials. A solid local that offers everything the Old Red Cow had plus a little bit more.
