Poet John Dryden was a regular back around the time when people still called it the Bucket of Blood – a name it was given due to all the bare-knuckle fights that would take place here. Dickens also liked top pop by for an ale or two.

A real traditional pub, but a friendly one with space to spill onto the street if necessary. A guy inside spilled his drink all over me and the barman offered to get my jacket dry-cleaned...how lovely! Don't get that too often anymore.
