A grand pub with a huge beer garden hiding behind it.

Step inside the White Hart on Stoke Newington High Street and it’s a little like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia. No, there’s no snow, you won’t spot a single fawn and the only Turkish Delight you’ll find is if you’ve brought it in yourself. No, I’m talking about all the space that opens up before you – you know, like in Narnia. This place goes on forever, which means if you’re ever after a pub in the area that guarantees you a fighting chance of grabbing a table then this is a good bet.

A modern pub with traditional interior – along with some stylish posters on the walls – the White Hart is quite a find. A large bar serves a range of Meantime beers, generic lagers and a good few ales and while visiting I even opted for a between beers elderflower spritz. And very refreshing it was too.

While the interior can comfortably handle around 20 big groups, the two beer gardens are capable of accommodating a small army. Picnic tables are squashed into formation and carpet an impressive lawn. This has to be one of the biggest gardens around. For food you can expect a range of gourmet burgers, a tasty East End smoked sausage dumpling, mash and liquor and fish finger dippers.

The excellent outdoor space is worth a trip to the White Hart alone, however, with regular events and a lively atmosphere the pub is almost a match for that big, beautiful garden.
